Meet Carissa

A young woman of color with curly brown hair, wearing a green sleeveless top and large earrings, smiling against a colorful blurred background.

Welcome! My name is Carissa Herron Stevens, founder and lead trainer of Herron Dynamics. As a trainer, facilitator, and consultant I provide support to leaders, helping professionals, and organizations in building stronger communication, navigating change, and creating environments where people can do their best work.

As the founder of Herron Dynamics LLC, I support organizations and teams in communication with those they serve through Motivational Interviewing training as well as workshops on embodied presence and grounded helping for those working in education, healthcare, human services, leadership, and beyond.

I'm a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), an Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) Qualified Administrator, and Intercultural Conflict Styles (ICS) facilitator with over a decade of skillful experience in health education, program management, and facilitation across all ages. My approach is grounded in evidence-based practice and shaped by an attuned awareness of how identity, culture, and systems influence communication and change within organizations.

I believe the environments where people learn and grow matter just as much as the skills they develop.

Perspective

My approach to training is shaped by both professional experience and lived perspective. As a Black and biracial woman living and working in the Midwest US, I bring an attuned awareness of how identity, culture, power, and systems shape communication, decision-making, and change within individuals, organizations, and learning spaces.

Grounded in Motivational Interviewing principles, my work honors ambivalence as a natural and valuable part of growth. I prioritize psychological safety, clear boundaries, and embodied awareness in trainings and workshops, attending closely to group dynamics and readiness. The environments I cultivate invite participants to lower their guard, engage honestly with complexity, and build practical skills in ways that feel sustainable, integrated, and immediately applicable to their work.

When I’m not working, you’ll find me spending time with my kids and family, traveling, planning my next SCUBA diving trip, practicing yoga, or in my garden. I’m currently working toward my yoga teacher certification and perpetually reading too many books at the same time.

Herron is the name I was born with, and the heron carries symbolism from many cultures around the world. As we work together, my aim is to embody the heron’s patience, grace, wisdom, and ability to navigate life’s complexities with stillness and balance while also creating a space of safety and encouragement for my participants to do the same.
